Appointment of a UCLA California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) Futures Committee

February 27, 2014

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Professors Ann Karagozian, David Eisenberg and Tomas Ganz have accepted my invitation to serve on a committee charged with conducting a forward-looking review of the CNSI. For the last decade, the CNSI, and the faculty and students that it serves, has proven to be an engine of innovation and discovery. We are firmly committed to maintaining this momentum so that the full potential of university and state investment can be realized.

This CNSI Futures Committee will seek broad input from faculty and students across the campus through an extensive process of interviews and written comments and recommendations. Their activities will be staffed by Rob DuWors who will be the portal through which interactions with the committee should be made. I have not placed a time limit on their review, but hope to have a preliminary set of recommendations by this summer.

I am deeply appreciative to these three distinguished faculty for their willingness to undertake this inclusive strategy to deepen the academic and societal contributions of the CNSI.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
