Appointment of Nicholas Entrikin as Vice Provost for International Studies

August 19, 2009

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Vice Chancellors, Deans, Directors, Department Chairs and Administrative Officers

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that the UC Regents have approved the appointment of Professor Nicholas Entrikin as vice provost for international studies.  Professor Entrikin has served as the acting vice provost since 2007.  His appointment as vice provost enables him to continue his strong leadership of the International Institute, while also promoting international issues on and off campus, working with deans and faculty on international exchange programs, and maintaining active engagement in international alumni and donor relations.

As international studies gained more prominence in UCLA’s strategic plans and priorities, the research programs and centers within the International Institute were re-organized in 2007 to report directly to the executive vice chancellor and provost, rather than through the College.  As vice provost, Professor Entrikin will continue to support the institution-wide purview of the International Institute and its many interdisciplinary study programs.  He will also continue to serve on the faculty in Geography and the International Institute.

Professor Entrikin will serve as vice provost through June 30, 2011.  Prior to that, we will launch a search for his successor.  Please join me in congratulating him and expressing our appreciation for his leadership.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
