Supporting Our Emeriti Faculty

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Deans, Directors, Department Chairs and Administrative Officers

Dear Colleagues:

Our emeriti faculty have devoted years of dedicated service to UCLA and remain valued members of our campus community. Many maintain close ties with UCLA and continue to contribute their invaluable knowledge, talent and experience to our University.

UCLA has established a number of resources that are available to emeriti faculty including the Emeriti/Retirees Relations Center, Benefits Office, Staff and Faculty Counseling Center and Emeriti Association. Additionally, the Academic Senate Committee on University Emeriti and Pre-Retirement Relations is responsible for considering matters relating to Emeriti Senate members.

Our academic departments also have responsibilities to emeriti faculty, including—to the extent possible—providing facilities and services to those who remain professionally active. To that end, I ask each of you to:

  • provide, whenever possible, adequate office and laboratory space (individual, when feasible, or shared) for our retired faculty, as well as access to appropriate departmental services;
  • ensure that all current emeriti faculty are listed accurately in the General Catalog and in the UCLA Campus Directory; and
  • consider the critical role that these colleagues play in many departmental and campus affairs, and facilitate their participation when appropriate.

Please join me in expressing our support and deep appreciation for our retired faculty members who have played a vital role at UCLA and continue to enrich our campus community.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
