Reappointment of Dean Frank Gilliam

October 15, 2013

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

To: Deans, Vice Chancellors, and Vice Provosts

Dear Colleagues:

As you are aware, over the past months, the customary five-year administrative review of Frank Gilliam as Dean of the Luskin School of Public Affairs has been conducted by a committee appointed by my office. The review was highly positive and on the basis of this outcome, the Chancellor and I have asked Frank to continue his service as Dean. I am pleased to announce that he has accepted the reappointment.

The Review Committee commends Frank for his clear and articulate vision of needs and goals of the Luskin School. He has made tremendous strides to bolster morale and strengthen the standing of the School. He has been praised by colleagues, students, staff, and alumni for bringing an openness, accessibility and collegiality that have improved the sense of inclusion and belonging at the Luskin School of Public Affairs.

Chancellor Block and I look forward to working closely with Frank in furthering the Luskin School of Public Affairs’ goals and initiatives. UCLA’s faculty, students, alumni, and administration are fortunate to have the benefit of his extraordinary leadership.

In addition to his decanal duties, Frank has accepted a new role as special assistant to the Chancellor. His work will focus on fostering and coordinating UCLA scholarship addressing community-based interests and needs. The role brings academic leadership to our varied and broad-based community partnerships.

Please join me in extending appreciation and congratulations to our colleague, Dean Frank Gilliam.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
