Re:     Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct

Dear Colleagues:

The UC Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit is rolling out a general compliance briefing that is required annually of all University employees.  The launch at UCLA is scheduled for February 18, 2010.  Chancellor Block and I strongly support this training that reminds us of the importance of ethical behavior in the conduct of our work on behalf of our stakeholders.

Description – This briefing will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will be available online via an emailed link from the UC Learning Management System.  The purpose of the briefing is to reinforce the Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct and provide information about reporting instances of non-compliance.

Frequency – Completion of this course (or equivalent content) is required every year, with the recurrent training based on the anniversary date of the prior completion.  This year’s completion date is December 31, 2010.  All new employees will be sent the training link within a week of achieving active employment status.

Audience – All University non-research faculty and staff are included in this briefing (researchers are required to complete a separate conflict of interest course that satisfies this general ethics requirement).  You may visit the UC Ethics Website (http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/compaudit/) for more information.  UCLA’s Ethics and Compliance Officer is Vice Chancellor Kevin Reed (http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/compaudit/campuscontacts.html).

With online training being the necessary vehicle for accomplishing ongoing compliance requirements, it remains imperative that all departments enter email addresses for every employee in the Email Update System.

Department managers may contact Director Dave Harmon, Financial Management Programs, to schedule in-person training on the general ethics course for groups of employees without access to computers (dharmon@finance.ucla.edu).

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
