Invitation: Meet with Search Committee for Vice Provost for Diversity and Faculty Development

Dear Colleagues:

As recently announced by Executive Vice Chancellor Waugh, a search/advisory committee has been charged with identifying candidates for the next UCLA vice provost for faculty development and coordinator for diversity.

I am pleased to serve as chair of this committee.  Other members are Carole Browner – Professor of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences/Anthropology/Women’s Studies; Alicia Gaspar de Alba – Professor and Chair of the Department of Chicana/o Studies; Andrea Ghez – Professor of Physics and Astronomy; Lane Ryo Hirabayashi – Professor of Asian American Studies; Darnell Hunt – Professor of Sociology and Director of the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies; and James Schultz – Professor of German and Chair of the Department of Germanic Languages.

As a critical part of the search process, we invite you to meet with the committee on Monday, April 19, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in 2121 Murphy Hall, to share information and insights regarding the search.

While there is no formal agenda for this meeting, you may wish to gather your thoughts on current challenges and opportunities that could help set the agenda for the new vice provost; what areas of the vice provost’s portfolio you feel are most critical at this time; what advancements in faculty development and/or diversity you’d like to see at UCLA within the next 5 to 10 years; ideal qualities and qualifications for the new vice provost; and any other information or insight that will help guide the committee’s efforts.

So that we can plan adequate seating and refreshments, kindly reply with your attendance plans.  If you wish to provide input to the committee but are unable to attend this meeting, please forward any comments to DiversityVPsearch@conet.ucla.edu.
