Mike Schill to Step Down as Dean of School of Law

September 30, 2009

UCLA Office of the Chancellor

To:     School of Law Faculty

Dear Colleagues,

We regret that Michael Schill is leaving UCLA, but we congratulate him on his success here and know that he will excel in his new position.  Now, we must turn to finding his successor.  We want to work as expeditiously as possible to initiate a nationwide search for a new dean, as well as to appoint an interim dean to serve the remainder of the academic year after Mike’s departure.

To that end, we have met with some of the school’s current leaders, and we would like to receive your recommendations for membership on the search committee, as well as for interim dean.  Please send your recommendations, along with any comments, to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at swaugh@conet.ucla.edu.  Your input is important to this process and will be held in the strictest confidence.  We would also be glad to meet with the faculty collectively to hear your views and answer questions.

We look forward to working with you to continue the high-quality leadership that Mike has provided in the School of Law and to ensure that the school remains a leading academic unit at UCLA.

Sincerely,

Gene D. Block
Chancellor
