Visiting Graduate Researcher Policy: Suspension of Supplemental Fee Continues in 2013-14

Dear Colleagues,

In October 2012, the Graduate Division, Academic Senate, and I agreed to suspend for one year a $535 quarterly supplemental fee for Visiting Graduate Researchers (VGR). This fee was established as part of a new policy covering graduate researchers who are visiting the campus for periods ranging from three weeks to two years.

Although hosting VGRs entails significant costs, we have now decided to extend the suspension period for another year, as recommended by the Academic Senate and the Graduate Division. Visitors or their hosts will still be responsible for all other fees, which are posted here. In the spring quarter 2014, we will reassess the potential value of the supplementary fees and will make a determination for the future. Our goal is to find an approach that balances the interests and needs of visitors, faculty, graduate students, and campus services.

Questions about Visiting Graduate Researchers can be directed to visitingscholars@grad.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
