Faculty Search Committee Briefings Participation

February 4, 2015

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Dear Colleagues:

Faculty Search Committee Briefings are an important tool for ensuring that faculty recruitment at UCLA is guided by best practices for a diverse, inclusive and fair search process. At this time, we require the chair of each search committee and at least one other committee member to participate in a search briefing.

I would like to extend participation in the Faculty Search Committee Briefings. First, effective fall quarter 2015, all members of faculty search committees should receive this training. Second, all academic department chairs should participate in a search briefing, preferably during this academic year. Third, all equity advisors should also participate in a search briefing during this academic year.

For more information and to schedule your participation in a Faculty Search Committee Briefing, contact the office of Diversity & Faculty Development at FacDiversity@conet.ucla.edu or call (310) 206-7411. Several briefing sessions have been scheduled for this winter and spring, which you can read about here. Faculty and chairs in Medicine can receive training specific to their school by contacting the David Geffen School of Medicine Office of Diversity Affairs at (310) 206-9204.

As you know, search briefings are one element of a much larger effort to increase faculty diversity and improve the campus climate for diversity. Thank you for your efforts to ensure equity and excellence at UCLA.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
