Reappointment of Alessandro Duranti as Dean of the Division of Social Sciences

Dear Colleagues:

Following a customary five-year administrative review, Chancellor Block and I have asked Alessandro Duranti to continue as dean of the Division of Social Sciences. He has accepted the reappointment.

The review committee commended Sandro for his effective academic leadership and fiscal management during challenging times. Widely regarded as an engaged and dedicated leader, he is an advocate for his faculty and students. His commitment to academic excellence is reflected in the various initiatives he has fostered — such as Partnership UCLA, Dissertation Launchpad and Startup UCLA, and interdisciplinary collaborations with other College divisions and professional schools — which have provided new opportunities for students and faculty.

Chancellor Block and I look forward to working closely with Sandro in furthering these and other initiatives. UCLA’s faculty, administration and students are fortunate to have the benefit of his leadership. Please join me in congratulating Sandro and extending our appreciation to him.
