Reappointment of Interim Dean Linda Sarna

March 11, 2015

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

To: Senate Faculty in the School of Nursing

Dear Colleagues:

As you know, Courtney Lyder has informed me that he will step down as dean and return full time as a faculty member effective July 1, 2015. I am very pleased that Acting Dean Linda Sarna has agreed to continue leading the School of Nursing for the next two years, through June 30, 2017. I will launch a national search for a permanent dean in the spring of 2016.

Chancellor Gene Block and I want to thank Linda for her strong leadership this year. She has effectively addressed a number of pressing organizational issues including budget and space planning, the school’s administrative structure, and Board relations. We are very confident that the School will be in excellent hands with her at the helm.

As described in the Academic Personnel Manual (APM 240-18), because no permanent dean is appointed yet, Linda’s title has been updated to Interim Dean effective immediately.

I will work with Linda to schedule a time for me to visit you at the Factor Building to discuss the future of the School. This is a time of change for UCLA’s health science enterprise. Although uncertainly can be anxiety-provoking, we have many exciting opportunities and every reason for great optimism about the future.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
