It is my pleasure to inform you that, following consultation with deans and faculty, the Chancellor and I have appointed Dean and Vice Provost Patricia Turner as Senior Dean of the College of Letters and Science. She will serve a two-year term, beginning July 1, 2016.
As you know, in addition to leading their divisions, the five College deans share responsibility for College-wide issues and functions. As Senior Dean, Pat will continue her leadership of the Division of Undergraduate Education, and she will also coordinate the deans’ shared responsibilities by:
- Convening the College deans and leadership as needed for planning, budgeting, and decision-making on College-wide issues and policies;
- Ensuring that staff for the Office of the Deans receive appropriate supervision and support;
- Working with College Development on all aspects of fund-raising that cut across the divisions;
- Representing the College on campus, systemwide, and externally.
Since joining UCLA in 2013, Pat has proven to be a highly effective leader, with a special talent for bringing people together in the pursuit of academic excellence. The Chancellor and I look forward to working with Pat to ensure that the College remains UCLA’s strong and vital academic hub. Please join me in congratulating her.
