Our Responsibility to Report Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence

October 26, 2016

UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

To:  All Faculty

Dear Colleagues:

UCLA is committed to creating and maintaining a community where all individuals who participate in university programs and activities can work together in an atmosphere free from discrimination and harassment. I encourage you to refer to the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment, which is the foundation for our efforts in this area.

With the academic year now underway, I write to remind you of the policy’s requirement that we report any sexual harassment or sexual violence of which we become aware in the course of our work. As faculty members, we are “responsible employees,” obligated under the UC Policy to inform the Title IX office whenever we receive a report of sexual harassment or sexual violence from anyone affiliated with the university.

Reporting Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment, a short guide for UCLA faculty, provides an overview of reporting steps and responsibilities. If you have any questions about the UC policy or its responsible employee obligation, please contact Kathleen Salvaty, UCLA’s Title IX coordinator, at 310-206-3417 or titleix@conet.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
