We write to share the news that Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Budget Jeff Roth will depart UCLA this summer to become Pomona College’s next vice president, treasurer and chief operating officer. His last day at UCLA will be September 2.
In his six years at the helm of the Office of Academic Planning and Budget (APB), AVC Roth has directed significant attention toward shoring up the infrastructure and expanding the capacity of the office; building a strong, deep team; and adding new capabilities in analytics, data science, and internal consulting to support planning and resource management. He has also worked diligently to improve connections between APB and finance leaders across campus, including the Academic Senate’s Council on Planning and Budget, to better address burgeoning challenges and strengthen financial planning.
AVC Roth and the APB team have also played central roles in major initiatives designed to maintain UCLA’s financial health over both the short and long term. He led the creation of a multi-year financial sustainability plan that was initiated this budget cycle, as well as the development and refinement of the Bruin Budget Model, an innovative tool designed to improve the way in which UCLA allocates funding across campus.
Beyond all this, AVC Roth has been a trusted advisor to senior leadership on a wide range of financial and strategic issues, including a recent assessment of opportunities for UCLA to contribute to UC’s systemwide 2030 goals to expand access, add faculty and address equity gaps.
We will share information about interim leadership plans for the Office of Academic Planning and Budget in the months ahead. In the meantime, please join us in thanking Jeff for his years of service to UCLA and wishing him the very best in his new leadership role at Pomona.
