Comment Period Open for UC Policy on Information Technology Accessibility
Dear Bruin Community:
The University of California Office of the President invites comments on a proposed Presidential Policy on Information Technology Accessibility. The updated policy is proposed to be revised and includes the following key issues:
- Aligns with the technical standard (WCAG 2.1 AA) set by two new digital accessibility regulations, which implement Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Requires each campus to establish an accessible course content program to ensure faculty support in creating accessible course content and to assist faculty in remediating course content.
- Provides guidance and necessary frameworks for the procurement of accessible products, a more defensible exception process for goods and/or services that do not conform to the WCAG 2.1 AA technical standard, and a complaint/grievance process. UCLA already supports this via our Third-Party-Risk Management procurement process.
- Establishes a reporting requirement to enhance system-wide oversight and coordination. Provides additional guidance around processes and authority.
Comments on the policy may be submitted to the UCLA Administrative Policies and Compliance Office at Compliance@ucla.edu by the close of business on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025.
Governance Update
The newly established Steering Committee on Digital Accessibility at UCLA convened on Nov. 26, 2025, and has representation across campus to provide strategic direction, align efforts across campus, oversee institutional risk mitigation and advise UCLA leadership on resource allocation and prioritization to support digital accessibility.
