Reappointment of Adriana Galván as Dean and Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education

December 2, 2025

Dear Colleagues:

Following the completion of a customary five-year administrative review, I am pleased to announce that Adriana Galván has been reappointed to serve a second term as dean and vice provost of the Division of Undergraduate Education. The review committee unanimously recommended her reappointment, citing her exceptional leadership, tireless advocacy for students and visionary contributions to undergraduate education.

Since her initial appointment in 2020, Dean and Vice Provost Galván has led the Division of Undergraduate Education with remarkable foresight and integrity, especially during some of the most challenging years in recent campus history. From navigating the COVID-19 pandemic to overseeing the creation of the Teaching and Learning Center, Dean and Vice Provost Galván has led with poise, empathy and purpose.

Among her many accomplishments, she secured more than $57 million in philanthropic support, including transformational gifts for the Chuck Lorre Scholars Program and Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies. She played a pivotal role in launching innovative academic programs such as the Disability Studies major  — the first of its kind in the UC system — and deepened UCLA’s commitment to civic engagement and student-led entrepreneurship through initiatives like a new Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cluster that will launch in 2026.

As a champion of inclusive excellence, Dean and Vice Provost Galván has led efforts to expand accessibility; launch the Latinx Student Success Center; and restructure scholarship distribution to better serve low-income, first-generation and historically marginalized students. A champion of study abroad, she has also increased scholarship support for students to expand their horizons overseas. She was also instrumental in leading UCLA’s pandemic academic response; supporting REACH, or the Remote Engagement and Advising in the College Hub; and co-leading the Elevate How We Teach goal in UCLA’s Strategic Plan. Dean and Vice Provost Galván served as interim vice provost for teaching and learning, guiding the successful recruitment of the unit’s inaugural leader and laying the foundation for campuswide pedagogical innovation.

Throughout her tenure, Dean and Vice Provost Galván has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to build consensus, promote academic excellence, and inspire confidence across a wide range of stakeholders — from students and faculty to campus leadership and national partners. Her deep commitment to inclusive and student-centered learning has left a lasting impact on our institution and positioned UCLA as a national leader in undergraduate education.

I extend my gratitude to the review committee and all who contributed to the process. Please join me in congratulating Dean and Vice Provost Galván on this well-deserved reappointment and in looking forward to her next term.

Sincerely,

Darnell Hunt
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
