Share Your Input on Feb. 4: Our Draft Refreshed True Bruin Values

January 14, 2026

Dear Bruin Community:

I am writing to invite you to our next UCLA Connects: Campus Community Conversation on Feb. 4, from 4:30–6 p.m., to share your thoughts on our draft set of the refreshed True Bruin Values. If you cannot attend that day, you can also share your feedback right now via this survey.

As Chancellor Frenk and I announced last fall, a dedicated steering committee of students, staff and faculty has worked to refresh our True Bruin Values for a new era through surveys and dialogue with thousands of Bruins, including a Campus Community Conversation last November. The engagement and feedback phase continues around our draft set of the refreshed values:

  • Integrity & Accountability – We speak with honesty and take responsibility for our impact.
  • Service with Purpose – We use our roles to support and uplift our communities.
  • Belonging Through Action – We create spaces where every Bruin feels seen and valued.
  • Curiosity & Growth – We stay open to new ideas, people and possibilities.
  • Collaboration with Humility – We build across differences with respect and shared purpose.

These draft values are not yet final, and now is the time to provide your feedback. Just as the process so far has been collaborative, the work of refining and finalizing our True Bruin Values by next fall will continue to depend on you. There are three ways to get involved in this phase:

1.  Attend our second UCLA Connects: Campus Community Conversation on Feb. 4 to discuss the values with your fellow Bruins. Spots are limited. Register for the conversation now. You can also save the date for our final session on May 13.

2.  Host your own conversation with your team, class or student group at your convenience using our Campus Community Conversations Toolkit.

3.  Share your voice online right now by submitting your feedback or a story of someone you have seen living out UCLA’s values.

Thank you to the many Bruins who have already contributed their ideas and reflections, as well as attended or hosted a conversation. Your input has been invaluable. So far, we are hearing from the community that values centering integrity, excellence and belonging are resonating most deeply.

My hope is that every member of our Bruin community — students, staff, faculty, alumni — will take part in this effort. The statement of values that we ultimately finalize and carry forward will only be as strong as the collective voices and action behind them. Together we are ensuring the True Bruin Values are a meaningful source of inspiration, accountability and shared purpose for the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Darnell Hunt
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
