On behalf of Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Scott L. Waugh, members of the search committee invite inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel at UCLA.
The Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel serves as the senior campus official responsible for academic appointments, promotions and advancements; academic recruitment and retention; faculty grievance proceedings; faculty disciplinary proceedings; review of proposals for faculty housing and loan programs; the Academic Personnel Office; emeriti faculty relations, including the Emeriti Center; continued development and administration of Opus, UCLA’s faculty information system; and consultation on academic personnel issues raised by academic employee organizations.
The Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel advises and reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor/Provost and to the Chancellor on a wide range of academic personnel issues, and serves as the Chancellor’s liaison to the Council on Academic Personnel and to several other committees of the Academic Senate. He/she also serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Executive Committee and represents the campus to the University of California Office of the President on academic personnel and related policy issues.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished scholar with substantial administrative experience and demonstrated leadership in fostering academic excellence in a research university. Primary qualifications for the position include a strong commitment to research, teaching and university and public service; a distinguished record of scholarly achievement; general knowledge of the wide range of academic disciplines at UCLA; demonstrated commitment to shared governance; an established record of advancing diversity; academic credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor; and experience in — and/or significant knowledge of — the University of California’s system of academic advancement.
