Job Announcement: Dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Since its founding as UCLA’s first professional school in 1935, UCLA Anderson has served an essential mission to advance management thinking and prepare transformative leaders to make a positive impact in business and society. Now one of UCLA’s 12 professional schools, UCLA Anderson currently employs 208 full-time and part-time faculty (of whom 85 are tenure track) recognized for their contributions to scholarship, teaching and practice across a broad spectrum of fields, and an administrative staff of 298 that supports all operational aspects of the school. The school is organized into eight academic areas including Accounting; Behavioral Decision Making; Decisions, Operations and Technology Management; Finance; Global Economics and Management; Management and Organizations; Marketing; and Strategy; and also houses nine faculty-led centers that serve as forward-thinking intellectual hubs, connecting faculty, students, industry professionals and policymakers in specific areas of expertise. These include the Center for Global Management; Center for Impact; Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports; Easton Technology Management Center; Fink Center for Finance; Morrison Center for Marketing and Data Analytics; Price Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation; UCLA Anderson Forecast; and the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate. A tenth center focused on healthcare innovation is currently in development. Annually, UCLA Anderson educates approximately 2,100 students enrolled in its highly ranked M.B.A., MFE, M.S. and Ph.D. programs, and 250 students pursuing undergraduate minors in accounting and in entrepreneurship. Two additional undergraduate minors in real estate and sports management are in development. In addition, the school’s Executive Education program trains approximately 1,800 professionals annually. It has an operating budget of $177 million; maintains endowed funds of more than $541 million; and raises approximately $30 million annually in philanthropic and other external support. UCLA Anderson’s 50-member Board of Advisors is highly engaged and supportive of the school’s success. A strong alumni network of 44,000 spans the globe.

As the chief executive and academic officer for the school, the dean provides strategic vision for and operational leadership of the school. The dean works to advance scholarship, education and civic engagement; encourage distinctive programmatic innovation; enhance excellence through diversity in educational programs and faculty and student recruitment; and link the work of UCLA Anderson faculty and students to other disciplines, communities and interests within and outside of the academy. Supporting the university’s research mission, the dean will advance the faculty’s scholarly activities, including opportunities afforded by interdisciplinary approaches. The dean serves as the school’s public voice, articulating its contributions to local, state, regional, national and international communities, and pursuing an aggressive development program to build the school’s resources. Reporting to the executive vice chancellor and provost, the dean serves on the Deans Council and the Council of Professional School Deans, collaborating with leadership across UCLA and the UC system as well as local, national and international leaders in business and management.

We seek a visionary leader to build upon UCLA Anderson’s traditions of excellence and innovation. Ideal candidates will be nationally and/or internationally recognized with demonstrated leadership and administrative experience and a strong commitment to management education and scholarship. Minimum requirements include a record of distinguished intellectual leadership and scholarly accomplishment and/or comparable achievements in management; significant administrative leadership; demonstrated success in external relations and fundraising, particularly with alumni; an established record of advancing inclusive excellence; and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor.
